How to run the drill
- 1Start on the block with a ball. Toss it out towards the elbow with backspin, chase it and catch it.
- 2Use the footwork for that round to square up, then shoot or attack the basket.
- 3Rounds: front pivot and shoot; front pivot, jab and drive; reverse pivot and shoot; reverse pivot, sweep and go.
- 4Two or three goes each side, then change the footwork. Once it's smooth, add a defender behind the catch.
Coaching points
- Catch on two feet, low and balanced
- Pivot foot stays down
- Rip the ball through low when you attack
More finishing drills
1v1 Blind Start
An attacker starts behind a defender who cannot see the ball. Removing the ball from the defender's back triggers a live chase to the rim.
1v1 No-Dribble Rim Finishing
Finish using pivots and fakes against a defender allowed just one step near the rim. Change the starting angle after every attempt.
Deep Seal and Finish
A post player has three seconds to establish a deep seal and receive the pass, then finishes against a live defender.
