Equipment: 1 ball
How the play works
- 14 and 5 at the elbows, 2 and 3 on the wings level with them, 1 at the top. The whole area under the basket is empty.
- 21 passes to 5 at the elbow.
- 3As 5 catches, 3 (the wing on that side) takes one step out, then cuts hard backdoor. 5 bounce-passes for the layup.
- 4If it's covered, 1 cuts off 5 for a hand-off and you play from there.
Coaching points
- Best against teams that deny the wings
- Elbow player: catch and look backdoor straight away
- Wing: change of pace, show a target hand

5-Out: Dribble-At Backdoor
One simple rule for 5-out: if a teammate dribbles at you, cut backdoor. It punishes defenders who deny the pass.
