Equipment: 1 ball per group
How to run the drill
- 1A passer with the ball at the top, a cutter on the wing and a defender guarding the cutter.
- 2V-cut: the cutter walks the defender towards the block, plants the inside foot and sprints back out to the wing with a hand up.
- 3L-cut: the cutter starts on the block, walks up the lane to the elbow, then plants and pushes straight out to the wing.
- 4The passer hits the cutter as they come out. On the catch, the cutter turns to face the basket and plays 1v1 to a score or a stop.
- 5Start with the defender just shadowing, then let them deny for real. Rotate passer, cutter, defender.
Coaching points
- Slow to go: walk in, sprint out
- Plant on the outside foot nearest the defender and push off
- Show a target hand and catch on the way out
- If the defender jumps the passing lane, go backdoor
