Equipment: 1 ball per runner, 2 balls for the shooters

How to run the drill

  1. 1Split into a running team and a shooting team. Runners line up in a baseline corner with a ball each; shooters line up at a spot near the basket with two balls.
  2. 2On “go” the first runner dribbles round the outside of the half court and back home. The shooters shoot in turn, rebounding their own shot and passing to the next shooter.
  3. 3When a shot goes in the shooters shout “stop!”: the runner freezes where they are, and the next runner sets off.
  4. 4A runner who gets all the way home before a basket scores one run and goes again from the back of the line.
  5. 5When every runner has been stopped, swap roles. Most runs wins.

Coaching points

  • Runners: fast, but in control round the corners
  • Shooters: stay calm, quick rebound, sharp pass
  • Move the shooting spot back for older players
